Therapeutic Therapist II

This is professional therapeutic treatment work involving planning, organizing, directing, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic programs for individuals served in an institutional or residential setting. The incumbent develops and carries out written training programs, participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, supervises or guides aides in assigned programs, and supports habilitation goals for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Work requires organization, communication, flexibility, problem-solving skills, accurate documentation, and the ability to work effectively in an often-unpredictable care environment.

Requirements

Examples of work include planning and organizing therapeutic recreational programs; evaluating the needs and skills of individuals served; writing and implementing training programs; carrying out therapeutic activities to support individual goals; documenting progress and program participation; supervising or guiding aides assigned to therapeutic programs; participating in habilitation team meetings; attending required in-service training; communicating with team members, supervisors, direct care staff, and other agency personnel; supporting individualized habilitation plans; maintaining program materials and documentation; transporting or assisting with transportation-related program needs as assigned; following agency safety procedures; and performing related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 3-4 years of experience.
Essential functions include planning, organizing, and directing therapeutic programs; evaluating individual needs; developing and implementing written training programs; documenting program activities and progress; participating in habilitation team meetings; supervising or guiding aides in therapeutic activities; communicating effectively with individuals served, staff, supervisors, and team members; attending required in-service training; maintaining records and documentation; following agency policies and safety requirements; maintaining a valid Mississippi driver’s license and safe driving record; exercising flexibility and sound judgment in an unpredictable work environment; and performing related therapeutic treatment duties as assigned.
