$50,248 - $75,372 Annually

Why does the job exist?

 
Provide direction and supervision for the therapeutic recreational activities within an established recreational therapeutic program at a long-term care facility, to improve and enhance resident's coordination, motor skills and cognitive level as part of the resident's treatment plan.

How does it get done?

 
Assist the director in managing the daily operations of recreational activities.
Enforce rules and regulations of recreational activities to maintain discipline and ensure safety.
Help organize and promote interest in recreational activities, such as arts, crafts, sports, games, and hobbies.
Assist with the needs and interests of residents and groups and plan activities accordingly, given the available equipment or facilities.
Help coordinate the work activities of personnel, such as training staff members and assigning work duties.

Residents at a long-term care facility.

Ideal Candidate

 
Will have:
The ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
The ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
The ability to organize, lead, and promote interest in recreational activities, such as arts crafts, sports, games and hobbies.
The ability to assess the needs and interests of individuals and groups and plan activities accordingly.  Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be and example of team work and team concept.

Minimum Qualification

 
Associate Degree in a relevant discipline and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling five (5) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

 
This position is designated as safety sensitive.  Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.  Will be screened for tuberculosis (TB) upon hire.  Employment is subject to nationwide criminal background check (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC) and is conditional pending results.   Licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico.

Working Conditions

 
Works in office area(s) as well as throughout the nursing service area (i.e., nurses' stations, resident rooms, etc.).
Moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc.,
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors.
Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.,

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.

Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
