$16.50 - $24.75 Hourly

$34,320 - $51,480 Annually

Why does the job exist?

 
Receive and process laboratory specimens for testing of blood/fluid/tissues from living and deceased persons and animals, as well as from water/soil/filters/food samples.

How does it get done?

 
Receive specimens delivered to the laboratory from couriers, public health offices, and public. Inspect collection containers and submission forms. Log samples and perform data entry of specimen information into the laboratory information management system. Deliver specimens to correct laboratory sections. Mail completed reports. Create and distribute specimen collection kits.

Should show in resume one (1) year of experience processing human and or animal specimens

Who are the customers?

 
New Mexico Department of Health, Epidemiology and Response Division, New Mexico Environmental Department, and private submitters and clinicians in New Mexico.

Ideal Candidate

 
High School diploma or equivalence and one (1) year of experience processing human and or animal specimens. Should also be detail oriented, focused on providing good customer services and can work well in a team environment.

Minimum Qualification

 
High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience processing human and animal specimens. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

 
This position is designated a safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.  Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.  In state and out of state travel may be required.  Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is required.

Working Conditions

 
Work is performed in a fully functional laboratory containing biological, chemical, physical, and radiological hazards. Incumbent will be required to use all applicable safety equipment provided by the employer and follow all safety precautions specified by the employer. There will be extended standing, repetitive trunk/arm/hand/neck movements with computer usage or assay/methodologies utilized. Work involves using high voltage electronic instrumentation, and high-pressure gas cylinders. Ability to lift/push up to 50 lbs.
