The Director provides overall leadership, administration, and operational oversight of a secure youth justice treatment facility serving male youth ages 12–20. The facility operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week, 365 days per year, and is licensed as a child caring institution.

The Director is responsible for leading a safe, secure, trauma-informed, and treatment-focused environment where youth and staff feel respected, supported, and accountable. The program provides comprehensive therapeutic, psychiatric, educational, vocational, and re-entry services designed to meet the complex needs of youth in care.

The Director oversees facility operations, budget administration, regulatory compliance, program quality, and the supervision of more than 40 professional staff across three shifts. This position ensures the facility maintains a cohesive treatment philosophy that promotes safety, dignity, cultural responsiveness, and positive youth development.

The Director is expected to provide strong executive leadership in a secure residential setting, support staff development and accountability, ensure compliance with child caring institution licensing requirements, and advance the program’s mission of equipping youth with the skills, stability, and support needed for long-term success.

Requirements

Education
A master’s degree in a human behavioral science, education, business administration, or public administration from an accredited college or university.

Experience
Two years of professional experience equivalent to an Equitable Classification Plan (ECP) Group Three manager and two
years of experience in a child caring institution or child placing agency or equivalent organization from another state or Canadian province.

OR

Education
A bachelor’s degree with a major in education, a human behavioral science, business administration, or public administration from an accredited college or university and

Experience
Two years of professional experience equivalent to an Equitable Classification Plan (ECP) Group Three manager and 4 years of post-bachelor’s degree experience in a child caring institution or child placing agency or equivalent organization from another state or Canadian province.


Qualifications

This position is located at the Michigan Youth Training Center (MYTC) at 400 N. Rose Street, Mt. Clemens, MI. 


Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including:
  • A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
  • A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
  • Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.
