CAHS is seeking a dedicated Social Service Counselor to join the Admissions Department.  The successful candidate will play a vital role in facilitating access to mental health services by conducting initial client screenings, coordinating admissions and referrals, scheduling aftercare appointments, maintaining accurate documentation, and supporting clients throughout the intake and admissions process.

Requirements

Three years of social services experience; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR

A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Positions that provide addictive disorder counseling or prevention services will require certification or eligibility for certification issued by the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority (ADRA), or its successor.

  • Conduct brief screenings of walk-in clients and make appropriate referrals based on identified needs.
  • Assist clients with completing intake, consent, and other required documentation.
  • Schedule aftercare appointments and follow up with clients to support continuity of care.
  • Complete and maintain aftercare tracking forms and  related documentation.
  • Document all client interactions, services provided, and activities performed in the electronic health record. 
  • Prepare and submit pre-authorization requests for services.
  • Compile, track, and document block grant and program related data.
  • Create new client records and  reopen existing client records.
  • Maintain and update Releases of Information and ensure  all required documents are uploaded to client charts.

Location : Capital Area Human Services District's Baton Rouge Behavioral Health Clinic
Work Schedule: 9 hours per day Monday - Thursday, 4 hours on Friday
Career Progression: This position may be filled as Social Service Counselor 1 or 2 depending on the level of  the selected applicant(s)

  • The maximum annual salary for the Social Service Counselor is $65, 666.
