Imperial Calcasieu Human Services Authority (ImCal HSA) exists so that citizens with mental health, addictions, and developmental challenges residing in the parishes of Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, and Jefferson Davis are empowered, and self-determination is valued such that individuals live a satisfying, hopeful, and contributing life. 


We're looking for a Social Service Counselor 1/2 to serve as an Urgent Care SUN / Peer Support Specialist. The incumbent provides peer support and recovery services within ImCal's Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Urgent Care Clinic, assisting individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) in accessing medication-assisted treatment. This role also involves connecting clients to individualized resources and services designed to support recovery, foster stability, and promote wellness.

Requirements

Three years of social services experience; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR

A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Positions that provide addictive disorder counseling or prevention services will require certification or eligibility for certification issued by the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority (ADRA), or its successor.

Job Duties:

  • Provide care coordination and linkages to local MAT treatment providers and recovery resources within the community. 
  • Provide education on overdose and the use of Narcan/Naloxone, distribute Narcan/Naloxone kits, and provide educational brochures on a variety of other topics.  
  • Educate and assist patients with enrollment in Medicaid, TANF, and other programs as eligible.  
  • Coordinate with hospital-based SUNS post emergency department visit. 
  • Follow-up after Urgent Care visit to encourage MAT treatment engagement.  
  • Coordinate necessary transportation for individuals. 

Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This position will be filled as a job or a probational appointment.  Job appointments may last up to 4 years & may be converted to a probational appointment.
Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Social Service Counselor 1 or 2.
Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
