Sanitarian 7 (Microbiology Compliance Manager)

This position may be filled in the following parishes: 

East Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Calcasieu, Rapides, Orleans, Tangipahoa, Ouachita, Caddo, Lafourche

This position serves as the Microbiology Compliance Manager within the State of Louisiana's Safe Drinking Water Program as delegated by the Environmental Protection Agency and state laws and regulations. Work is performed in accordance with scientific principles, concepts and techniques and approved methods. This position requires current registration with the LA State Board of Examiners for Sanitarians as a Licensed Professional Sanitarian and directly reports to the SDWP Compliance Manager.

Requirements

Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarian's license plus one of the following, which must include two years of experience at the supervisory level or above:

Five years of experience as a sanitarian; OR

A master's degree in public health, food science, dairy science, environmental or sanitary science, or one of the physical or biological sciences plus four years of experience as a sanitarian.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

  • Directs and ensures proper determinations of public water systems statewide regarding compliance with the monitoring requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SOWA) and State Sanitary Code including but not limited to the Disinfection Rule, the Public Notice Rule, the Total Coliform Rule (Revised), the Ground Water Rule, and the Surface Water Treatment Regulations (Interim Enhanced, Long Term 1, and Long Term 2).
  • Directs/performs consultation to District and Regional offices as well as public water supplies regarding data management and quality assurance, sample collection and quality control, statistical report preparation, work flow development and process efficiency, and review in accordance with the Disinfection Rule, the Public Notice Rule, the Total Coliform Rule (Revised), the Ground Water Rule, and the Surface Water Treatment Regulations (Interim Enhanced, Long Term 1, and Long Term 2).
  • Directs and performs preparation of comments and/or development of new regulations for supervision of Public Water Systems in Louisiana.
  • Directs/performs training to disseminate knowledge to staff, state agencies, operators and owners of public water supplies with regard to existing, new, and proposed regulations including existing or new treatment technologies that may be utilized by public water supplies to achieve compliance with state and federal regulations.
