In this dynamic role, you’ll serve as a Public Health Sanitarian overseeing multiple environmental health and consumer protection programs within a regional office. From conducting inspections and investigations to supporting statewide public health initiatives, your work will directly impact the well-being of residents and businesses throughout the state. Requirements

Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarian's license plus one of the following, which must include one year of experience at the supervisory level or above:

Five years of experience as a sanitarian; OR

A master's degree in public health, food science, dairy science, environmental or sanitary science, or one of the physical or biological sciences plus four years of experience as a sanitarian.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

  • Oversees and evaluates multiple Environmental Health programs, inspections, databases, and operational activities to ensure compliance with public health regulations and achievement of regional program goals.
  • Monitors inspection schedules, productivity reports, and compliance documentation to ensure required inspections and reporting activities are completed accurately and timely across the region.
  • Serves as a liaison between regional field staff, parish offices, and Central Office administration to coordinate staffing, operational priorities, emergency response activities, and environmental health initiatives.
  • Provides guidance and technical expertise to staff, public officials, and citizens regarding public health laws, sanitary code regulations, environmental health standards, and enforcement procedures.
  • Supervises Environmental Health staff, including Parish Managers and program coordinators, by overseeing performance evaluations, leave management, staffing recommendations, and employee development activities.
  • Conducts field assessments and supports investigations related to complex environmental health issues, infectious disease outbreaks, environmental illnesses, and emergency response operations.
  • Assists with enforcement actions, compliance conferences, legal proceedings, and public health hearings by preparing documentation, coordinating with attorneys, and providing expert testimony as needed.
