Requirements

Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarian's license plus one of the following:

Three years of experience as a sanitarian; OR

A master's degree in public health, food science, dairy science, environmental or sanitary science, or one of the physical or biological sciences plus two years of experience as a sanitarian.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Job Duties:
  • Manages and oversees Food and Drug Program activities within assigned regions to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. 
  • Conducts inspections of food, drug, cosmetic manufacturing facilities, wholesale distributors, UV tanning facilities, and Commercial Body Art establishments to verify compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Good Warehousing Practices (GWPs), and Louisiana Sanitary Code requirements. 
  • Performs complaint investigations and documents findings related to regulated facilities, products, and consumer health concerns. 
  • Conducts inspections and audits of food manufacturers, distributors, and commercial seafood establishments in accordance with the Federal Inspection Program (FIP) contract and US FDA requirements. 
  • Reviews plans and specifications for new Food and Drug Program and Milk and Dairy Program establishments to ensure compliance with design, construction, training, and product testing requirements. 
  • Reviews product labels for compliance with Food, Drug, and Cosmetic laws and identifies misbranded, adulterated, or non-compliant products. 
  • Prepares enforcement actions, collects product samples for laboratory analysis, oversees seizure or destruction of contaminated products, and participates in emergency response and product recall activities during natural or man-made disasters.
