In support of our mission to "“Protect, Improve and Sustain the health and well-being of all people in Nashville and Davidson County.”  The Metro Public Health Department is hiring registered nurses for the School Health Program.

This employment will begin July 27, 2026 for the FY2026-2027 Metro Schools Schedule 
Salary is based on proof of Highest Education per below:
  • Associate $53,5771.00
  • Bachelor  $56,998.00
  • Master      $58,611.00

Requirements

  • Provides nursing services in Metro Nashville/Davidson County Schools.
  • Evaluates the health needs of students attending assigned schools.
  • Provides or arranges for selected screenings and assessments.
  • Provides care coordination/case management.
  • Provides generalized health services.
  • Implements medication distribution system.
  • Maintains student health records.
  • Performs related duties.

Qualifications

  • Must be Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee. Applicants holding a Registered Nurse license from a state that participates in the “Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact” may be hired, but must obtain their Tennessee license within thirty (30) days of hire. 
  • Diploma or Associate’s Degree in nursing. Candidates with Diploma or Associate’s Degree in nursing must establish a documented ability to competently perform all functions of this classification to be considered. Bachelor’s degree from a state-approved school of nursing preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification. 
  • All public health nurses are required to complete a department approved Certificate in Public Health as a condition of continued employment. Possess required competencies upon hiring.
  • Valid class “D” driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply, however at the present time MPHD is not sponsoring individuals through any of the US Governments employment-based immigration programs.
