Public Health Nurse 2 (Full Time Orientation/Training Supervisor) School Health

This is a promotional job announcement, and only current  employees of the Metropolitan Nashville Health Department (MPHD) will be considered.
The School Health Program of the Metro Public Health Department is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to provide program planning and direct supervision of nurses in specific clusters of schools within the Metro Nashville Public School system in Davidson County.  This is an excellent opportunity to work in a program that supports our families and communities by supervising nursing services to the students of Nashville and Davidson County. This position serves as the orientation coordinator for the School Health Program and works under the supervision of a division director. Regular communication with employees and the public is expected.

Requirements

  • Identifies areas of program wide training needs and develops strategies to meet those needs.
  • Facilitates an environment supportive of ongoing education of school nurses and interprofessional colleagues.
  • Shares knowledge from educational findings, experiences, and ideas relative to optimal healthcare delivery in an educational setting with all stakeholders.
  • Serves as the consultant for professional development efforts, providing support and direction.
  • Assist with the development and revision of the administrative school health policies and procedures.
  • Serves as lead trainer for electronic documentation software.
  • Provides program planning and direct supervision of nurses in specific clusters of schools assuring the safe and effective delivery of nursing services.
  • Communicates all assignments, deadlines, and other pertinent information to the school health nurses. 
  • Assists with patient problem-solving and instructs and mentors new staff on department procedures.
  • Identifies factors that impact delivery of services and develops and implements plans for improvement. 
  • Provides input toward School Health policies and procedures.
  • Attends student support team meetings and helps develop an appropriate student health plan. 
  • Initiates the referral processes to appropriate programs and agencies within and outside the MPHD.
  • Performs other duties and special projects that target healthy children and school environments. 
  • Serves in key roles in the school and work settings by participating on and leading committees, councils, and administrative teams.
  • Conducts performance evaluations.

Qualifications

Diploma or Associate’s Degree in nursing and one (1) year of nursing experience preferably in the field of public health. Candidates with Diploma or Associate’s Degree in nursing must establish a documented ability to competently perform all functions of this classification to be considered.

Licensure:
Licensed or eligible for RN licensure in Tennessee.
All public health nurses are required to complete an MPHD-approved Certificate in Public Health as a condition of continued employment.

Valid driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a state-approved school of nursing.
