LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, DAVIDSON COUNTY
This position is located in the Division of Health Disparities Elimination within the Office of Faith-Based and Community Engagement. A valid vehicle operator's license will be required for employment.
This position is fully remote but will require frequent travel to Nashville or other parts of Tennessee. Applicants must be willing and able to drive to meetings with community and faith-based organizations throughout Tennessee.

Qualifications
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in health education, biology, or a related field and experience equivalent to one year full-time professional health education work.
Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time professional experience in health education may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of four years.
Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional qualifying graduate coursework in health education, biology, or related field may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for year basis, to a maximum of one year.
Necessary Special Qualifications: A valid vehicle operator's license may be required for employment in some positions.
Overview
Under general supervision, is responsible for professional public health education and consulting work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required. An employee in this class performs a full range of public health education program development, evaluation and consulting work of average difficulty. This class is flexibly staffed with and differs from that of Public Health Educator 1 in that an incumbent of the latter performs at entry level. This class differs from the Public Health Educator 3 in that the incumbent of the latter may provide supervision of Public Health education work or have statewide oversight of a moderate to large public health educational program.
Responsibilities
- Develop and Sustain Community Relationships: Establish, strengthen, and maintain meaningful relationships with community members, schools, Faith-Based organizations, community-based organizations, local businesses, healthcare providers, and other key stakeholders to foster trust, collaboration, and community engagement.
- Lead Community Outreach and Engagement Efforts: Plan, coordinate, and participate in outreach activities, educational programs, community service initiatives, and health promotion events designed to increase awareness of available resources, services, and public health priorities.
- Deliver Culturally Responsive Presentations and Training: Present information to diverse audiences in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner, ensuring that educational materials, public health messaging, and program information are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to community needs.
- Assess Community Needs and Connect Individuals to Resources: Identify social, health, and community needs through direct engagement and community assessment activities. Provide information, referrals, and connections to appropriate services, programs, and resources that support individual and community well-being.
- Serve as a Liaison Between the Community and Public Health Partners: Communicate community priorities, concerns, barriers, and opportunities to health department leadership, government agencies, healthcare organizations, and community partners to support informed decision-making and responsive program development.
- Strengthen Cross-Sector Partnerships and Collaborative Initiatives: Foster and expand partnerships among government agencies, healthcare organizations, Faith-Based organizations, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and community stakeholders to advance shared goals, improve service coordination, and address health disparities.
- Represent the Organization at Community Events and Meetings: Attend and actively participate in community events, coalition meetings, conferences, workshops, and public forums to build visibility, strengthen partnerships, and promote organizational initiatives. This may include evening, weekend, and occasional travel requirements.
- Perform Other Duties as Assigned: Support departmental priorities and special projects by performing additional responsibilities as assigned to meet organizational and community needs.
