Why does the job exist?

 
The public health office clerk shall provide clerical duties to support the Artesia Public Health Office- Roswell in various public health program areas.  This contributes to the agency's mission and goals by supporting the staff and community members of Eddy County.

How does it get done?

 
Providing clerical technical support to public health office staff/public health nurses by greeting clients and processing them through the billing and electronic health records system including scheduling and confirming appointments for the Eddy County Public Health Office- Artesia. Answering the many phone calls that come through the Public Health Office utilizing a multi-line phone system, directing calls and taking messages. Filing and keeping records for the public health office's various programs.  Assists with supply orders for the health office. Verifying insurance status in the New Mexico Medicaid Portal and YesNM, and submitting billing and taking payments for Family Planning services, making deposits and compiling monthly reports for different programs.  Providing vital records services such as birth certificates and assisting local funeral homes with death certificates while maintaining security at all times.  Maintains protected health information in accordance with records protocols and HIPAA policy and procedures at all times, and meets training requirements. Maintains client confidentiality. Maintains the standards of the Department of Health code of conduct. Stays current in changes to policies. Ensure data entry and billing criteria are in line with program policies. Attends training programs and meetings to stay informed of changing environment.

The residence/clients of the community of Eddy County, Public Health Nurses, Funeral Homes and other community partners as needed.

Ideal Candidate

 
1  Experience working with electronic health records
2  Experience utilizing a multi-line phone system
3  Strong customer service skills
4  Proficient using computers and computer programs
5  Experience using fax/copier/scanner and general office equipment
6  Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Minimum Qualification

 
No prior experience or training required.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

 
Office setting, exposure to visual/video display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer, and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
