Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this full-time position will be to serve as the public health nutritionist for the Worcester County Health Department, responsible for organizing and conducting nutrition education throughout the county. This includes, but is not limited to the provision of the National Diabetes Prevention Program, Cognitive Health, Cooking up Health, Healthy Hearts Blood Pressure Self Monitoring Program, Healthy Worcester Families, Monthly Diabetes Support Group, and What's Cooking in Worcester. This position will also lead the delivery of nutrition education and interventions in alignment with the Rural Health Transformation Plan and the AHEAD model. Additionally, this position will: Facilitate monthly diabetes support groups in the Pocomoke & Snow Hill communities; Provide medical nutrition therapy and community nutrition education; and Serve as a resource in nutrition matters to the local health department staff and the community at large. Services are also provided to clients with special nutritional needs due to age, health status, socioeconomic status or other characteristics. The selected applicant must be willing and able to travel to all Worcester County Health Department sites and will be required to work occasional evening and/or weekend hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice under the licensing requirements for Nutritionists and Dietitians. Experience: Two years of experience providing professional nutrition or dietetic services. Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree in Public Health, Community Health or Nutrition from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience. 2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Dietitian and Nutritionist classification or Dietitian and Nutritionist specialty codes in the Dietitian field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess: Experience delivering health education & nutrition education to diverse populations Experience developing, organizing, implementing and evaluating public health nutrition education programs & services Experience facilitating chronic disease prevention and management programs and support groups

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Dietitian/Nutritionist from the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 prior to permanent appointment. 2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
