Medical Certification Specialist 1-2 (Trainer)


The mission of the Louisiana Department of Health is to protect and promote health and to ensure access to medical, preventive, and rehabilitative services for all residents of the State of Louisiana.

This position may be filled in the following parishes: Rapides, Avoyelles, Vernon, Grant, La Salle, Catahoula, Concordia, Lafayette, St. Landry, Acadia, Evangeline, St. Martin, Vermillion, Iberia, Jefferson Davis, East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, Ascension, and Livingston

This position is part of the OAAS training team.  Routine statewide travel is required in order to perform training duties and deliver presentations relative to all OAAS Long Term Care programs that serve the elderly and persons with adult-onset disabilities. 

The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to facilitate effective training in classroom and large audience settings; knowledge in adult learning principles; possess analytical thinking and problem solving skills; and be well organized. The position also requires ability to engage and develop a rapport with others, while also thinking in a disciplined and systematic fashion since a primary focus of the training team is the use and coding of a standardized assessment and care-planning tool used in multiple OAAS programs.  The candidate must be/or become certified in the use of the assessment tool and in person-centered care planning principles. 

The following attributes are preferable (but not required): experience using standardized functional/clinical assessment tools, knowledge of Medicaid Long Term Care Programs’ rules and regulations (including Nursing Facilities, Community Choices Waiver, Adult Day Health Care Waiver, Long-Term-Personal Care Services and the Program for the All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly), proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.). 

Requirements

A current Louisiana license in a health services field, health regulation field, or social services field plus two years of experience in hospital or nursing home administration, health services, health regulation, or social services; OR

A bachelor's degree plus two years of experience in hospital or nursing home administration, health services, health regulation, or social services; OR

A master's degree in a health services field, health regulation field, or a social services field plus one year of experience in hospital or nursing home administration, health services, health regulation, or social services.

Job Duties:

  • Conducting regularly scheduled trainings on the standardized assessments and person-centered care planning used by OAAS;
  • Maintaining certification/training records; 
  • Assisting with revisions and/or development of training materials; 
  • Providing technical assistance to other OAAS staff, providers and support coordination agencies;
  • Developing and delivering other trainings and/or presentations to providers statewide. 
  • Assisting with monitoring of Medicaid enrolled support coordination agencies (on-site and data review), 
  • Conducting assessments at home visits, and
