Managing Director

The Northeast Public Health Collaborative is seeking a high-level operational manager capable of translating the Collaborative’s vision into action, including identifying strategic opportunities, facilitating productive discussions, and managing deliverables to advance the Collaborative’s objectives. Top candidates are likely to bring substantial experience as a public health leader at the federal, state, and/or local level, with program, policy, and project management experience.

The Managing Director will:

• Help build, support and manage the Collaborative’s infrastructure and staff; ensure alignment among the Collaborative’s workgroups and committees; and maintain relationships with jurisdiction members.
• Implement the Collaborative’s strategic direction and support organizational growth.
• Provide guidance and support to the Executive Leadership Board, Leadership Group, Operations, workgroups, and ad-hoc committees.
• Serve as the overall project manager and ensure that projects and deliverables are completed on time and on budget.
• Coordinate and guide workgroup activities along with workgroup co-leads and the Leadership and Operations teams. Help oversee the work of project consultants, external contributors, and internal project participants, including project leads, subject matter experts, and professional associations.
• Oversee Collaborative grant-writing, reporting, and fundraising to ensure project sustainability, in coordination with the Collaborative’s Partnerships and Finance team.
• Facilitate clear internal and external communications, including reports and presentations.
• Help develop and support external relationships on behalf of the Collaborative. May be asked to represent the Collaborative at meetings and conferences. These responsibilities will be shared with the Leadership members and workgroup leads.

Organizational Structure

• Reports up through the Leadership Group and directly to the Executive Leadership Board.
• Participates in routine meetings with staff, workgroups, and jurisdictional leaders.
• May participate on external or internal advisory boards.

Qualifications & Experience

• Master’s or Doctoral degree in public health, public administration, health policy, healthcare, or a related field required.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in public health, health policy, or a related field, including work at the federal, state, and/or local level.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in program, policy, or project management, with demonstrated responsibility for managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
• Minimum of 5 years of managing people, including supervision of professional staff, project leads, consultants, and/or subject matter experts.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing materials and presenting to senior leadership, committees, and external audiences.
• Demonstrated experience translating strategic vision into operational plans, project deliverables, and measurable outcomes.
• Experience overseeing project budgets, timelines, and contracts, and ensuring deliverables are completed on time and within scope.
• Experience raising and managing funds, identifying grant opportunities and writing grant proposals, and evaluating organizational financial needs.
• Proven ability to facilitate cross-sector collaboration, including working with government agencies, coalitions, advisory bodies, and/or partner organizations.
• Experience as a member or leader of a large membership organization or association.
• Experience building a new organization, business, or program.
