Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Part-time

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care is seeking a committed Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the team at the Civil Commitment Unit for Sex Offenders (CCUSO) in Cherokee. This part-time role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working in a structured, team-focused clinical environment.

Work Schedule – We have the following shifts to offer with a $0.90/hour shift differential:
• Work 4 shifts 1:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. every two weeks 

OR 

• Work 5 shifts 2:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m. every two weeks

• You’ll work a rotating schedule that includes every third weekend. While the schedule is generally consistent, teamwork sometimes calls for flexibility beyond standard hours.

What You’ll Do
As an LPN at CCUSO, you will provide essential nursing care and therapeutic support to a specific high-risk population. Responsibilities include:

• Delivering acute and chronic nursing care
• Promoting health and preventing disease through patient education
• Participating in therapeutic treatment activities
• Providing psychological support, guidance, and reassurance
• Escorting patients as needed
• Accurately documenting patient behaviors, attitudes, and care activities
• Contributing to a safe, structured, and supportive treatment environment

CCUSO provides a secure, long-term, and highly structured setting to treat sexual offenders who have served their prison terms, but, in a separate civil trial, have been found likely to reoffend. The facility provides state-of-the-art treatment to patients to lower their risk of re-offending and to release them from confinement as quickly as possible. There is a full range of diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitative services focused on addressing the conditions impacting a patient’s likelihood of re-offending. Qualifications
