Job Description:

DHHS Public Health Division is seeking an Informatician I to support financial and economic data reporting for major public health initiatives.

The Informatician will help translate complex funding, spending, program, and outcome data into clear reports, dashboards, and visualizations for internal decision-making and public communication.

Additionally, this position will work with program, finance, informatics, and data partners to help explain where public funds are going, what activities they support, and how those investments contribute to public health goals.

This is one more way the Public Health Division helps Nebraskans live better lives.


 

Job Duties:

  • Collect, organize, validate, and analyze financial, economic, programmatic, and public health data from multiple sources.
  • Support the development and maintenance of dashboards, reports, maps, tables, and other visualizations that explain funding distribution, spending trends, program activity, and outcomes.
  • Review datasets and data flows to identify errors, inconsistencies, missing information, duplicated records, or reporting issues.
  • Work with program, finance, informatics, IT, and data office staff to define data elements, reporting needs, dashboard requirements, and data workflows.
  • Document data sources, assumptions, definitions, reporting methodology, dashboard logic, and update processes to support consistent and accurate reporting.
  • Assist in preparing regular and ad hoc reports for leadership, funders, public communication, grant reporting, legislative inquiries, and other data requests.
  • Translate complex financial, economic, programmatic, and technical information into plain-language summaries for leadership, program staff, external partners, and the public.
  • Provide basic technical assistance or training to dashboard users, program staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in meetings, workgroups, and planning sessions related to data reporting, system workflows, public health informatics, finance data, and program evaluation.
  • Support continuous improvement of reporting tools by gathering user feedback, identifying gaps, and recommending changes to improve accuracy, usability, and clarity.

 


 

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Statistics, Epidemiology, Informatics, or Health field plus 4 years of experience working in data analysis, statistics, & interpretation of data in a health subject area OR Master’s Degree in Public Health, Statistics, Epidemiology, Informatics, or Health field plus 2 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience analyzing, interpreting, or reporting financial, economic, grant, public budget, public spending, or programmatic data.
  • Experience developing dashboards, reports, visualizations, or data tools for internal decision-making, public reporting, grant reporting, or program evaluation.
  • Proficiency with PowerBI, Excel, SQL, SAS, R, Python, Tableau, GIS/mapping tools, or similar data analysis and visualization platforms.
  • Experience working with public sector, health care, public health, grants, government finance, economic development, or publicly funded program data.
  • Ability to explain financial, economic, programmatic, or technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience documenting data definitions, data sources, methodology, assumptions, dashboard logic, and reporting limitations.
