Brief Job Description:
Performs routine technical work in the planning, development, and implementation of the Industrial Radiographer Certification Program. Reviews and evaluates applicants' compliance with requirements for radiographer certification. Assists in fulfilling contractual obligations concerning industrial radiography examinations. Prepare technical reports concerning health physics and regulatory activities concerning industrial radiographer certification. Serves as team leader or team member of other operational projects necessary to meet Consumer Protection Division's needs. Works under limited supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions:
EJF 1. (35%) Industrial Radiographer (IR) Trainee Certification. Verify IR trainee applicant classroom and on-the-job training qualifications. Research applicant history, radioactive material licenses, the list of DSHS-accepted training courses, and a database system for training information on each proposed trainee. Perform complex data entry into a database for radiographer trainee qualifications. Verify the trainee certification regulatory requirements were met, then generate, issue and mail industrial radiographer trainee certification cards.
EJF 2. (35%) Industrial Radiographer Certification. Verify radiographer certification applications by researching applicant history, radioactive materials licenses, exams qualifications and categories. Review qualifications of industrial radiographers, examination scores, approve certification. Enters applicable certification information for each examination in tracking database and corrects any inaccurate information. Perform complex data entry into a database system after verifying regulatory requirements were met. Schedule and process exam applications after verifying prerequisite requirements including payment of fees to fulfill contractual obligations for in-state and out-of-state examinees.
EJF 3. (20%) Routine and complex tasks. Interpret rules and DSHS policy regarding radiographer qualification. Answer routine questions from the public and licensees on industrial radiographer qualifications, license amendments and certifications, requiring interpretation of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Prepares routine and special correspondence, documents, and reports. Performs complex computer-related tasks using databases. Proofreads documents and correspondence. Compiles and enters data for charts, graphs, databases summaries or reports. Develop administrative and technical assistance policies and procedures for the review of license and permits.
EJF 4. (5%) Provides technical assistance and advice to public, regulated community, and staff for application of rules concerning industrial radiographer certification. Presents assigned training topics; obtains technical training necessary to give technical assistance and training on industrial radiographer requirements and industrial radiographer certification requirements and procedures.
EJF 5. (5%) Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to serving as a team leader or team member while aiding other licensing programs and actively participating in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation including nuclear emergency response drills, exercises, and actual response to accidents. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Initial Selection Criteria:
- Minimum of associate degree from accredited school
- Five years of experience reviewing applications and issuing licenses or permits
- Experience using computer database systems to enter and retrieve licensing or permitting information.
- Experience working with the public during the licensing or permitting review process.
