Immunizations Registered Nurse

Are you looking for a meaningful and community-focused nursing role? We are seeking a Registered Nurse to provide professional public health nursing services within our immunization clinics throughout Maricopa County. In this position, you will deliver direct patient care and health education by reviewing immunization histories, determining recommended vaccines, administering vaccines, and ensuring accurate documentation.

While the primary focus of this role is supporting our clinic-based immunization services, responsibilities may also include participating in outreach activities and assisting with other clinic-based nursing functions within the unit as program needs evolve.

We Require

  • One year of nursing experience

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing and a valid unrestricted Arizona Board of Nursing Registered Nurse License

  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis 

  • A valid, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing (or another state recognized as a multi-compact license state)

  • Experience with Arizona State Immunization Information System (ASIIS)

  • Vaccine for Children (VFC) program experience

  • Bilingual skills in English/Spanish

Job Contributions

  • Review patient immunization records, determine recommended vaccines, and administer vaccines to children and adults in high-volume settings

  • Maintain clear and accurate documentation of all immunization activities

  • Assist with the opening and closing of clinical operations for fixed immunization clinics and outreach immunization events

  • Ensure proper vaccine storage, handling, and cold chain management in accordance with VFC, VFA, MCDPH, and other applicable requirements

  • Participate in outreach activities and collaborate with internal and external partners when needed

  • Provide education and training to staff, volunteers, and students

  • Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the Immunization Program and the Community Health & Resource Services (CHRS) Division

Working Conditions

  • Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

  • Position has access to personal protective equipment for routine patient care, including medical gloves, medical masks

  • Ability to exert up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, and requires walking or standing to a significant degree

  • Travel will be required to attend conferences, training, and possibly varying work locations

  • Valid Arizona driver’s license is required upon hire

  • Current healthcare BLS/CPR certification is required upon hire

  • Within one month of hire, all employees will be required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
