INTERNAL AGENCY OPPORTUNITY
This position requires you to work on site at one of our facilities located throughout Broward County. This is a full-time, daily in-office and in the field position.

Duties and Responsibilities
This position spends the majority of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating,training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees' work. The incumbent has the authority to hire,transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance,
complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensure proper coverage, and complete timesheets.
This is a position which directly supervises staff who have jurisdiction for the following environmental health programs in Broward County: Public Swimming Pools, Mobile Home/Recreational Vehicle Parks and Camps, Food Hygiene, Group Care, Solid Waste,Rodent/Arthropod Control, and Communicable Disease Surveillance. Responsible to ensure that all Federal, State, and Local safety standards are maintained to prevent injury to staff, patients and guests of the health facility.
Ensure staff inspect all public swimming pools and bathing places regulated by the Department of Health to ensure compliance with 64E-9,FAC to ensure compliance with state water quality, safety, and operating standards to protect the public health semi- annual.Activities include permitting, field chemical testing, inspecting water treatment components (pumps, filters, chemical feeders, flow rates, etc.), complaint investigation, consultation, and enforcement.
Ensure staff inspect all food service facilities regulated by the Department of Health to ensure compliance with 64E-11,FAC in accordance with risk base frequency.
Ensure staff inspect all mobile home and recreational vehicle parks regulated by the Department of Health to ensure compliance with 64E-15,FAC semi-annual and inspects group care facilities regulated by the Department of Health to ensure compliance with 64E12,FAC, 6A-2 or FBC 468 to protect the health and safety of clients.
Ensure staff investigate all environmental nuisance complaints related to solid waste, disease vectors, and any other environmentally
related threat to public health in accordance with state timeline. Efforts to secure abatement include consultation, referral, and
enforcement.
Ensure staff initiate and pursues enforcement actions as necessary by the issuance of Notices of Violation, preparation of evidenceand supporting documentation, and by giving testimony before the County Health and Sanitary Control Board.
Assists with performing routine facilities inspections in food hygiene, group care and public pools as needed.
Assists with completing plan review for initial permitting and licensing in food hygiene program.
Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Use of field test kits for monitoring chemical water quality parameters including pH and chlorine residual.
- Use of computer, fax, copier and mobile communication equipment.
- Knowledge of codes pertinent to the various Environmental Health Facilities Programs
Minimum Qualifications
- Willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours, or days in the event of an emergency.
- This position requires current authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship. The Department of Health is unable to provide employment visa sponsorship.
- This position is a full-time, in-office position.
- Current employee of Florida Department of Health employees, (includes OPS, Career Service, SES or SMS employees)
- A valid driver's license, free of major infractions and access to an automobile to be utilized for work purposes and receive reimbursement for mileage.
- Valid Certified Environmental Health Professional (CEHP) Licensure in all areas of Food Protection.
- Experience conducting plan reviews for initial permitting in the Food Sanitation program.
- Experience conducting waterborne illness investigations and water sampling.
- Experience supervising staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Work experience in strike team emergency response duties.
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited four (4) year college or university with a degree in environmental science, environmental health, public health or a physical biological science.
- Previous work experience in interpretation of rules, administrative codes and regulations.
- Experience guiding team in daily inspections of public pools, bathing places, mobile home and recreational vehile parks, and food service facilities.
