Health Care Surveyor - Pittsburgh Field Office

Are you a dedicated health care professional who is passionate about upholding the integrity and excellence of health care in Pennsylvania? As a Health Care Surveyor with the Department of Health, you will help ensure that health care facilities provide safe and reliable services. Your work supports statewide efforts to maintain strong standards of care. You will interact with providers, review important information, and contribute to protecting vulnerable populations. Requirements

Working as a team with your peers, you will help ensure that health care facilities follow federal and state standards that protect patients and the public. This role supports the Department of Health mission by conducting surveys, reviewing documentation, and guiding facilities toward compliance. As a Health Care Surveyor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Survey Activities: Conduct surveys and investigations using regulations to assess facility compliance
  • Team Participation: Serve as an independent surveyor, team member, or team leader as assigned
  • Document Review: Examine information and prepare plans for surveys and follow-up actions
  • Report Writing: Prepare clear reports that describe findings and support regulatory decisions
  • Provider Guidance: Offer information to facilities, families, and consumers about processes and requirements
  • Training Support: Assist supervisors with training new surveyors and supporting survey operations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Irregular hours: You will be required to carry a cellular phone and respond to complaints during off-duty hours as assigned.

  • Travel and Location: Statewide travel may be required which may include overnight stays. This position will primarily cover the following counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Somerset, Washington, and Westmoreland. This role requires travel to various regional facilities, as well as assistance at larger facilities across the Commonwealth. Travel to additional counties may be required based on operational needs.

  • Home Headquartered: This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. 
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • A bachelor’s degree in audiology, communication sciences and disorders (CSD), cognitive disabilities, gerontology, health administration, nutrition, dietetics, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, psychology, public health, recreational therapies, respiratory therapy, speech-language pathology, social work, nursing home administration, or vocational rehabilitation; and one year of related professional experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of related professional experience.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires successful completion of the relevant provider-specific federally mandated training provided by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services within one year of hire.
  • You must be in possession of an active motor vehicle license.
