The New Mexico DOH Family Planning Program (FPP) state office staff work to fulfill Title X grant requirements, which includes overseeing the quality of sexual and reproductive health services in Title X clinics, in compliance with federal statutes, regulations, and legislative mandates. The RN Consultant is an essential part of a clinical team that monitors and supports family planning services at public health offices and contract clinic sites statewide.

This position provides technical and nursing services for the NM DOH Family Planning Program (FPP) by participating in clinical teams to provide consultation, education, and training to field clinic staff and the public. The position is also responsible for ensuring that policies, protocols, and procedures for medical care are compliant with accreditation, regulations, and medical standards.

How does it get done?

 
Key responsibilities include the following, in collaboration with the FPP Medical Director and members of the Clinical Team:

Working in collaboration with program staff to assure and improve access to high-quality sexual and reproductive health services

Working in collaboration with program staff to schedule and conduct site visits of Title X clinics, approximately 25-30 sites / year, responsible for quality review and follow up

Participating in clinical teams to meet the goals and objectives of federal and state grant requirements

Participating in clinical teams to compile clinical data and write reports on program outcomes

Providing consultation, education, technical review, and training to field clinical staff

Monitoring contracts with vendors and provider agreement sites

Oversight of lab and pharmacy supply budgets

Assisting in coordination of FPP manual and protocol updates, program website communications, evaluation and distribution of educational materials

Participating in community outreach activities

Other duties as assigned

Who are the customers?

 
Customers include clinical field office staff, contractors, state office staff, and the public. The position may include limited direct patient care and may serve clients of DOH Telehealth services.

Ideal Candidate

 
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Experience working with an electronic health record system.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Licensure as an RN in the State of New Mexico, with at least 3 years' experience as it pertains to essential duties and responsibilities, experience in family planning and sexual/reproductive health.

Ability to work independently to provide consultation and technical assistance to clinical field staff.

Minimum Qualification

 
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements and at least three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

 
Work is performed primarily in an office setting (Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm) with extensive exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal(VDT) with considerable personal computer and cellular telephone usage. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Position requires intermittent in-state travel, with occasional out-of-state and overnight travel.
