What You'll Do:

• Investigate STI occurrence (routine or outbreak):

• Conduct or monitor others conducting data collection (interviews, medical record abstraction, etc.)

• Interpret and analyze data (cause, spread, etc.)

• Monitor process of specimen collection, delivery to laboratory and reporting of results for special study projects

• Conduct computerized statistical analysis (via SAS and/or other programs)

• Produce and distribute/post reports, including infographics

• Forward or fill data requests as directed

• Conduct and coordinate electronic data transmissions including electronic lab reporting

• Tabulate and analyze epidemiological data using standard statistical measures (e.g., measure variability, statistical significance of association, incidence and prevalence rates)

• Assist in development of database projects, including database quality control

• Ensure that data reported to the Ohio Department of Health is accurate and complete

• Work collaboratively with public health professionals, laboratories, and health care providers to improve STI surveillance and reporting

• Assist with training users on data systems used by STI Surveillance and with the development of training materials

• Represent the team in meetings/conferences and make presentations to public health professionals and/or public

Unusual Working Conditions:

• May require travel
• May be away from home and normal work site up to 30 days during emergencies
• May be exposed to contagious and communicable diseases and toxic or hazardous chemicals

Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. This is an hourly position, with a pay range of 32 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule.

EDUCATIONAL TRANSCRIPT REQUIREMENTS: 
Official educational transcripts are required for all post-high school educational accomplishments, coursework or degrees claimed on the application. Applicants will be required to submit an official transcript prior to receiving a formal offer of employment. Failure to provide transcripts within 5 working days of being requested will cause the applicant to be eliminated from further consideration.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Completion of graduate core program in public health or preventive medicine; AND
• 3 courses or 9 months' experience in the use of statistical computer software packages; AND
• 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in epidemiology; AND
• 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in physiology; AND
• 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in statistics; AND
• 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in human relations; AND
• 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in interviewing; AND
• 6 mos. exp. working in research or specific laboratory identifying or researching infectious or chronic diseases &/or related environmental health problems; AND
• Must be able to provide own transportation

OR

• 6 months' experience as an Epidemiology Investigator 1 (65761) with the State of Ohio; AND

• Must be able to provide own transportation

Applications of those who meet the minimum qualifications will be further evaluated against the following criteria:

• Graduate or advanced degree in public health or preventive medicine
• Experience in data management and monitoring
• Experience in database computer software packages (e.g., Access, Excel)
• Experience in statistical software, (e.g., SAS, STATA, or SPSS)
• One (1) course in Biostatistics
• Training or experience working with programs related to STIs or other infectious diseases
• Experience creating tables, figures, graphs, or charts displaying health-related data

Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 32, Step 1 of the union (OCSEA) Pay Range Schedule ($31.47/hr.), with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($32.84/hr.) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
