As the Environmental Health Compliance Specialist 4/Deputy County Manager with Macon Bibb County Environmental Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals working to protect the health and well-being of communities across the state by supporting vital public health initiatives. Requirements

Under supervision of the Environmental Health County Manager, the Environmental Health Compliance Specialist 4/Deputy County Manager will be responsible for management and oversight of the Environmental Health program within Macon-Bibb County. Duties include assisting with program implementation, supervising staff in the absence of the County Manager, conducting inspections and investigations, serving as a liaison with community and government partners, and supporting education and compliance efforts across program areas.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities


  • Assist the Environmental Health County Manager in managing and implementing EH program areas

  • Provide supervision of environmentalists and administrative support staff in the absence of the Environmental Health County Manager

  • Assist with data verification for monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports

  • Serve as the lead environmentalist for the smoke-free air act and body art

  • Serve as the primary liaison for Planning and Zoning. Work duties may include researching and signing preliminary plats, communicating via Camino, attending predevelopment meetings, as well as evaluating civil and site plans

  • Serves as a member of the County Health Emergency Assistance and Resource Team (CHEART)

  • Attend board of health meetings with and in the absence of the Environmental Health County Manager

  • Attend county commission meetings with the Environmental Health County Manager

  • Perform inspections, complaint investigations, and plan reviews in accordance with the rules and regulations of various program areas as needed

  • Provide environmental health education and technical assistance to the public, regulated community, and elected officials.

  • Perform office duties within the Environmental Health Section, including telephone communications and daily in-person interactions, as well as drafting correspondence and managing filing and recordkeeping duties.

  • Interpret and apply local, state, and federal environmental health laws and regulations.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned. Responsibilities and essential functions may change to meet organizational needs.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, which includes the completion of 27 semester or 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.) and one (1) year of experience at the lower-level PH Envir Compl Specialist 3 (RCP122) or position equivalent.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Two (2) years of experience plan review, permitting, and inspections across all Environmental Health programs

  • Generalized Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) training and experience

  • Current Georgia Environmental Health Inspector Certification Levels I and II

  • A Current Georgia Standardized Food Service Establishment Inspection Officer

  • Completion of all Georgia Department of Public Health New Environmentalist Training Modules

  • Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification

  • Current certification as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) with Georgia Environmental Health Association (GEHA) or National Environmental Health Association (NEHA)

State of Georgia employees are subject to the rules of the State Personnel Board regarding salary.

DPH accepts educational credentials recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) as valid. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degrees, diplomas, licensures, and other relevant credentials.
