Position Overview
The Director, Public Health (DoPH) leads our US-based Public Health initiatives to improve population health by applying novel processes, project management strategies, and data science tools to build effective solutions to complex public health problems. The DoPH will manage a team of Public Health consultants to inform policy, system, and environmental changes aimed at improving the health status of state and local public health programs through a health equity framework. Additionally, the DoPH will directly manage key client engagements and key relationships to liaise between clients, community agencies, institutions, providers, coalitions and our internal BME Strategies team to fulfill the goals of our firm; finally the DoPH will serve on BME’s on leadership team to contribute to the overall firm strategy, direction, and leadership. The Ideal candidate for this role has direct experience working in local public health in one of the following states: NY, NJ, PA, MD, VA.
Key Responsibilities
BME Org-Wide Responsibilities for Director/Managing Director/Executive Director:
- Serves as strategic and technical advisor.
- Manages organizational stewardship; high-level and/or strategic accounts, and provides practice/service leadership.
- Supervises leadership with a minimal assignment
- Establishes and accountable to growth strategy and targets.
- Approval/sign off on all proposals prior to submission.
- Support leadership and management in proposal and pitch strategy.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Along with the Managing Director and Leadership Team, develops the strategic direction and priorities of BME Strategies to produce and oversee work plans and future project pipelines.
- Manages and mentors Practice Leads, as well as individual consultants servicing client programs, in Business Development, KPIs, reporting staff support, and management.
- Informs the firm’s work through a health equity lens to actively engage in working towards eliminating health disparities.
- Provides assistance to the Executive Team/Managing Director of BME Strategies in carrying out the core functions of the firm, i.e., the design and implementation of public health programs, conducting new business development, and improving client services.
- In coordination with the Director, Business Development, leads and/or provides oversight of the preparation of project and grant proposals and applications and manages the completion of project and grant deliverables.
- Directs research development, collection, and analysis of data sets for monitoring, evaluation and program implementation.
- Oversees the development of reports that detail the conclusions developed from BME projects and identifies solutions, as well as opportunities for improvement within the field using data trends.
- Assists in the preparation of data, results, and journal submissions for publication.
- Communicates effectively and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders.
- Leads performance management and quality improvement related to the client programs and internal BME services.
Experience, Qualification, & Skills
- Minimum 10 years relevant experience required.
- Required areas of experience and expertise: project management, data analysis, Public Health and strategy consulting, grant sourcing and management.
- Experience working in local public health in one of the following states: NY, NJ, PA, MD, VA.
- Minimum of 6 years day-to-day people management experience, including leading teams toward complex Public Health interventions.
- Minimum of 6 years in practice/service area leadership.
- Master’s degree in Public Health or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years client-facing experience, including 7 or more in project leadership roles.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced consulting environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Proven track record of balancing personnel management with individual work product across multiple tasks with excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
- Collaborative and supportive working style with the ability to interact positively across a variety of team members, clients and stakeholders.
- And an alignment with BME’s shared values.
Work Environment
- This is a full-time position based in a home office environment within the U.S.
- BME Strategies in a remote-first organization. This role may require occasional travel to client sites, conferences, or meetings as required; 10-15% of travel is anticipated for this role.
