MDH, Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center, Jessup, MD

Main Purpose of Job

Under the leadership of the Clinical Director, responsible for overseeing all medical treatment and provide direct supervision and clinical oversight of the entire somatic staff for 289 patients and the contract monitor for assigned applicable contracts at Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center. This position requires the holder to be accessible 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. They will also provide direct patient general medical care. The Director of Somatic Medical Services must display superior leadership ability to move the Medical Department forward in maintaining excellence in the rapidly changing evidence-based world of somatic treatment and delivery of quality cost-effective health care. Supports the mission of the organization through active participation in clinical efforts to provide treatment in a recovery-oriented environment. The foundation of a recovery-oriented environment is respect and a commitment to safety in the least restrictive manner possible.

POSITION DUTIES

Directs the operation of the Somatic Clinic while also providing direct medical care to psychiatric population of the hospital. Develops, reviews, and enforces Standard Procedures and Departmental Policies in clinical care. Establish clinical best practices, medical guidelines, policies, procedures, standards. Organizes treatment protocols and develops treatment pathways. Provides oversight for The Joint Commission accreditation. Manages quality performance improvement programs and activities to achieve hospital goals and objectives. Identifies and tracks healthcare outcomes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a degree in medicine from an accredited college or university, a Maryland license to practice medicine, board certification, and a minimum of seven years of medical practice experience, including at least four years of supervisory or managerial experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be licensed and currently registered with the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State law. A copy of the current registration must be attached to this application. Applicants for this classification must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of medical specialization.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates should possess the following: ● Experience in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine ● Experience in managing medical staff in the provision of somatic medical care ● Strong administration skills ● Working knowledge of performance improvement measures used to assure the quality of medical care and team evaluation tools and methods ● Familiarity with Joint Commission Standards for a hospital ● Experience developing decision making tools ● Experience with Process Improvement paradigms ● Excellent skills assessment and team development skills ● Ability to balance administrative and clinical duties, providing hands-on patient care. The person in this role is expected to perform patient care.
