Administrative Services Assistant 1

The Case Management Specialist (CMS) positions are designed to provide direct clerical, research, quality assurance, and technical support to the assigned forensic pathologist(s) to facilitate case management workflow and the completion of reports and documents associated with medicolegal death investigations. The CMS positions link the separate, diverse, and interconnected sections of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) and the individual forensic pathologist(s). These positions assist the physician in gathering the information, documents, and evidence required to supplement the autopsy findings to determine the cause and manner of death for the cases. The CMS positions serve as a point of contact for stakeholders outside of the office in a particular case or investigation and facilitate the dissemination of information and completed reports to authorized recipients. Duties include but are not limited to: Case File Management; Preparation of Correspondence; Organization and Catalog of Case Records Request and Management; Electronic Case Management System Entries; Mail Processing; Transcription; Typing; Form Completion; Office Equipment Usage; and Telephonic Interaction with Stakeholders. CMS are routinely exposed to sensitive and sometimes disturbing case file contents that include photographs from death scenes and autopsy. All OCME employees must have the capacity to maintain the strictest possible standards of confidentiality, privacy and discretion. All OCME employees are required to complete an initial background check prior to employment and subsequent background checks to maintain continued employment.

Qualifications

Training: Graduation from an accredited college or university. Preference may be given to candidates with a major in the area of public or business administration, accounting, industrial relations, communications or related field.
Substitution: Additional qualifying experience as described below may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required training.  
 
Experience: One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid employment in a technical or advanced clerical position providing administrative services such as accounting, budgeting, project monitoring and reporting, personnel, or procurement and property. Experience must have been at the Office Assistant 3 or Accounting Technician 3 level or higher.
Substitution: Successful completion of graduate study in an accredited college or university in one of the above fields may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
