Take the lead in shaping the financial integrity of one of Louisiana’s most impactful agencies! As a Lead Accountant with the Louisiana Department of Health, you’ll manage complex appropriation accounting and grants reporting for a department with a multi-billion-dollar budget. In this high-responsibility role, you’ll oversee diverse funding streams, drive accurate federal financial reporting, and deliver critical analysis that supports essential health programs across the state—making a real difference through precision, leadership, and expertise.

Requirements

Six years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting plus three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting plus three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics plus three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics plus two years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license plus one year of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

  • Leads implementation and application of accounting and reporting requirements for LDH non-Medicaid federal grants
  • Reviews grant awards and applications to determine funding structure, reporting requirements, and appropriate financial treatment
  • Prepares and submits Federal Financial Reports, reconciliations, and reimbursement requests for assigned grants and contracts
  • Monitors and reconciles financial system reports, prepares adjusting entries, and ensures timely and accurate grant accounting
  • Tracks and forecasts revenue and expenditures, manages cash flow, and prepares cash projections for assigned agencies
  • Maintains detailed financial records, schedules, and supporting documentation for reporting, audits, and compliance reviews
  • Provides technical guidance and coordinates with internal staff, state agencies, and federal auditors on grant-related financial matters
