We are seeking an Accountant 4 to support complex accounting operations, including financial reporting, account reconciliation, budget monitoring, and compliance activities. This role ensures accurate financial data, strengthens internal controls, and supports the agency's fiscal accountability and operational efficiency.

Requirements

Six years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting plus three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting plus three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics plus three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics plus two years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license plus one year of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

  • Assist in ensuring the day-to-day operations of agency are compliant with generally accepted accounting principles and federal and state regulations.
  • Reviews state legislation and executive orders for implementation on compliance as it relates to budget, contracts, property control, purchasing, and accounting/billing/accounts receivables.
  • Responsible for monthly and ad hoc reports on means of financing and expenditures
  • Manage budget allocation, monitor and analyze expenditures and revenues, forecast revenue and expenditures.
  • Identify trends and potential funding issues and recommend changes to authorized budget categories.
  • Performs monthly random audits on invoices.
  • Review annual audits submitted by contractors and ensure corrective action plans are in place and fully implemented for audit finds
Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type:  Probational or Job Appointment

Location: Capital Area Human Services District's Fiscal Division.

Work Schedule: 9 hours per day Monday - Thursday, 4 hours on Friday.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Note regarding the advertised pay range: The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make at each level over their career and NOT the amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
