Forsyth County Women, Infant, Children's, WIC Department is seeking a WIC Breastfeeding Peer CounselorAs a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor within District Two at the Georgia Department of Public Health - District 2, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Requirements

Under direct supervision, provides a broad range of paraprofessional social services to patients/clients/consumers and their families. Conducts patient/client/consumer intakes, participates in treatment team planning, and performs crisis intervention.  

  • Essential Functions (include but are not limited to):
  • Offers limited para-professional breastfeeding support to clients and their families
  • Assists in leading breastfeeding classes for WIC participants.
  • Provides individualized, basic breastfeeding education and counseling both within and outside WIC clinics.
  • Maintains caseload and accurately documents participant interactions in accordance with Every Mother and District 2 Public Health WIC guidelines.
  • Issues and tracks breast pumps following WIC and Every Mother Support Policy.
  • Participates in monthly staff meetings and breastfeeding conferences/workshops as appropriate
  • Supports efforts to promote and protect the health and well-being of residents across Northeast Georgia.
  • Manages a caseload of WIC mothers, serving approximately 203 participants per hour worked.
  • Provides basic breastfeeding education and support, covering topics such as breastfeeding benefits and common challenges.
  • Assists with prenatal and breastfeeding classes, as well as support groups within the WIC clinic.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED AND One year of experience in a social services related position 
OR 
  • Two years at an accredited college or university with at least 15 credit hours in a social services related field. 
  
 Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Must be a current or former WIC participant
  • Must have breastfed at least one child for a minimum of six months
  • Previous Peer Counseling Experience
  • Bilingual: fluent in writing and speaking Spanish
  • Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) or Certified Lactation Educator (CLE)
  • Passionate about breastfeeding and committed to supporting new mothers.
  • Ability to work up to 28 hours per week.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Basic computer skills.
