INTERVIEWS ARE ANTICIPATED TO BE CONDUCTED WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF CLOSING DATE.

The Communicable Disease Bureau (CDB) within the Center for Healthy and Safe Communities (CHSC) oversees programs to respond to common infectious diseases including HIV, STD, hepatitis and TB, while also providing services for child and adult immunization/vaccination and refugee health. A number of programs are partially funded with grants from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) including HIV prevention, STD, hepatitis, TB and immunization. The bureau sets policies and clinical protocols and manage contracts to reduce the spread of communicable disease across New Mexico.

Why does the job exist?

 
The Vaccines for Children Health Educator provides public health education and support to healthcare providers enrolled with the Immunization Program that provide pediatric vaccine in the state. Training provided consists of storage and handling of vaccines to prevent wastage and best use of inventory.

How does it get done?

 
Education and Training on the Vaccines for Children Program to healthcare providers.

Research vaccine returns, troubleshooting records, transfers vaccine expiration and wastage reports.

Communicate with providers regarding current reporting forms, update materials as needed, post to the New Mexico Statewide Immunization Information System and the Vaccines for Children web page.

Help Desk Support, responds to tickets and provides support and training for all aspects of vaccine inventory. management, reconciliations, and returns.

Ideal Candidate

 
Public Health Staff, healthcare providers, federal partners, other state government stakeholders, and public.

Minimum Qualification

 
Associate Degree in Public or Health Education and two (2) years of experience in health-related fields. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

 
Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability ACT (HIPAA) course. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

 
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Lifting up to forty (40) pounds may be required. Potential for exposure to communicable disease. Infrequent in-state travel with the occasional overnight stay may be required.
