The Communicable Disease Bureau (CDB) within the Center for Healthy and Safe Communities (CHSC)
oversees programs to respond to common infectious diseases including HIV, STD, hepatitis and TB,
while also providing services for child and adult immunization/vaccination and refugee health. A
number of programs are partially funded with grants from the federal Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC) including HIV prevention, STD, hepatitis, TB and immunization. The bureau sets
policies and clinical protocols and manages contracts to reduce the spread of communicable disease
across New Mexico.

Why does the job exist?

 
The purpose of the job is to manage vaccine purchasing for children and adults using tools provided by the CDC and State of New Mexico, managing budget, forecasting needs, problem solving as needed and keeping a steady supply of vaccines for the providers of the state. A related purpose is to oversee key parts of adult immunizations, including Perinatal Hepatitis B management and cocooning. Finally, the position provides oversight for outreach including but not limited to tribal and school.

How does it get done?

 
The Vaccine and Outreach Manager (VOM) will oversee and monitor vaccine ordering, forecasting, and Spend Plan for New Mexico. They will assist the Immunization Program Finance staff with private vaccine purchasing, provide outreach and adult vaccine oversight for the Immunization Program, including assisting with formulating a coherent, achievable, and strategic outreach plan. This position will provide oversight to the Perinatal Hepatitis B and Adolescent Vaccine Coordinator, and Adult/Vaccine Coordinators activities. Assist in planning and oversight of the school flu outreach, and other outreach events, including planning for doses and distribution, forms, protocols, and other areas as needed. The VOM will also provide input during Marketing/Messaging meetings and participate in Vaccine Equity meetings with community organizations and coalitions and fulfill supervision and management duties.

Customers include Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH,) State of NM Residents and other stakeholders and partners within NM.

Ideal Candidate

 
-Experience managing staff
-Three to five (3-5) years experience with community outreach
-Able to travel for work related events
-Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
-Experience with grant writing and managing budgets

Minimum Qualification

 
Associate degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Statistics, Finance, or a related field and three (3) years of experience with a public assistance program, medical, healthcare, educational, or state facility working with policies and procedures, conducting analysis/research, providing or requesting information from the general public, working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management, behavioral health, and/or health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling five (5) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Working Conditions

 
Office setting, exposure to VDT, extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.  Must have valid NM driver's license and certification of Defensive Driving training after hire.
