Brief Job Description:
Under the direction and supervision of the Immunization Program Supervisor/Hereford, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement, perform routine public health and technical work for the Immunization Division. Work involves reviewing, processing, and analyzing reports received from providers enrolled in the Texas Vaccine for Children (TVFC) and Adult Safety Net (ASN) programs within Public Health Region 1 (PHR-1) on vaccine administration and accounting. Serve as a regional resource for general inquiries; provide technical assistance and training as indicated. Assist in activities to review and evaluate immunization services and identify immunization coverage levels. Performs other duties as assigned. Safe operation of a state-owned vehicle is required to conduct state business, and an acceptable driving record must be maintained in accordance with DSHS policy 05-3901, Fleet Operations and Management procedures and standards developed by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
(40%) Audits monthly vaccine reports from local health departments, public health clinics and private providers. Reviews monthly, all assigned TVFC and ASN provider vaccine inventory reports and temperature recording logs for completeness and accuracy prior to order approval and processing in the VAOS (Vaccine Allocation Ordering System) ordering system. Reviews and approves vaccine orders following departmental processes and procedures on vaccine ordering and reporting. Provides technical assistance and quality assurance to TVFC providers/staff.
(25%) Consults with TVFC and ASN providers and staff regarding incomplete/incorrect orders and provides in-person education and training as necessary to improve accuracy and efficiency. Consults directly with program supervisor and Austin Immunization staff on problems identified with TVFC and ASN providers, monthly reports, and vaccine storage and handling issues.
(25%) Serve as a regional resource for general inquiries, technical assistance and training related to vaccine preventable diseases, vaccine accounting, Vaccine Allocation Ordering System (VAOS), and other immunization services. Interpret and communicate laws and recommendations related to immunizations and vaccine accounting, using a variety of resources, i.e., Internet, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook. Provide referrals for immunization services as requested. Retrieve immunization records through ImmTrac2/IIS, the statewide immunization registry/Immunization Information System as requested according to guidelines. Support and act as a backup clerical support for DSHS regional clinics and will communicate and assist clients with scheduling appointments, answering phones, working with nursing services and STD/HIV services.
(10%) Completes special assignments and other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
