Training and Support Specialist

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Aging and Disability Services, Bureau of Community Integration is seeking a Social Worker 3, Training and Support Specialist to join our team!

Join the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Aging and Disability, Targeted Case Management (TCM) team as a Social Worker 3 – Targeted Case Management (TCM) Training and Support Specialist. In this role, you’ll empower staff through training, ensure quality services for individuals with disabilities, and provide expert guidance on complex cases. Position Details: 

Location: This position may be based in Independence or Dubuque, Iowa. Final location to be determined upon hire. This position serves multiple counties.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (flexible schedule).

Travel: Travel is expected with occasional overnight travel; valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required. Mileage reimbursed per DAS State Accounting Enterprise procedures.


What You’ll Do 

Lead Training & Development: Design and deliver engaging training curriculum for new TCM staff, focusing on the populations served, case management standards, best practices, and supporting individuals of all ages in home and community based settings.

Quality Assurance: Serve on the TCM Training and Support Team, reviewing case records and providing feedback to maintain high standards of care.

Expert Consultation: Offer guidance and case management assistance on complex cases, assist supervisors with staff development, and provide ongoing support and assistance to case managers.

Direct Support: Deliver intensive case management services for clients with challenging needs and provide coverage as needed.

Collaboration & Innovation: Work closely with supervisors and team members to improve processes, enhance service delivery, to maintain best practices and support the Unit with meeting state and federal regulations.

Requirements

923 Targeted Case Management Bachelor’s Degree with at least 30 semester hours including:
• Behavioral Science • Education • Health Care • Human Services Administration • Social Sciences Applicant must also possess 1 year experience in delivery of human services as a Targeted (Medicaid) Case Manager in the combination of: • Chronic mental illness • Developmental disabilities • Intellectual disabilities
OR
Applicant must have Iowa license to practice as a registered nurse and the equivalent of 3 years nursing or human services experience.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree and the equivalent of three years of full-time experience in a social work capacity in a public or private agency;

OR
graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in social work and the equivalent of two years of full-time experience in a social work capacity in a public or private agency;
OR
a Master's degree in social work from an accredited college or university;
OR
an equivalent combination of graduate education in the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university and qualifying experience up to a maximum of thirty semester hours for one year of the required experience;
OR
employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of one year of full-time experience as a Social Worker 2 shall be considered as qualified.

OR
an Iowa license to practice as a registered nurse and the equivalent of three years of full-time nursing or human services experience with the above population groups.
