The New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute provides care to New Mexicans across six different divisions including hospital level inpatient psychiatric care for both civil and forensic commitments, residential treatment for adolescents, outpatient care for people with behavioral health disorders, detox and residential substance use treatment and skilled/ long term care. As the largest behavioral health complex in the State, inpatient/ residential care is provided to over 250 New Mexicans every day, along with 400 outpatient clients a month. There are over 600 employees across all divisions of NMBHI to ensure high-quality treatment and care is delivered.

Why does the job exist?

 
Switchboard Operators receive incoming and outgoing calls, be the point of contact for communication for New Mexico Behavioral Health on a 24 hour basis. Dispatch emergency response for security, such as ambulance, fire and local law enforcement as needed.

How does it get done?

 
Answer and transfer incoming and outgoing calls as needed.
Document patient movement as well as time lines of events on campus as needed.
Issue visitor passes and communication with doctors on campus as needed.
Dispatch radio communication for the Security department as needed.

The Switchboard Operators ensure the safety and security of all individuals associated with NMBHI, including staff, patients, residents, visitors and property.

Ideal Candidate

 
Windows based computer skills
Customer service skills with communication and problem solving
Fast Learning skill set along with multitasking abilities
Written documentation of events is a must; must be able to write reports as needed

Minimum Qualification

 
Eighth grade education.

Employment Requirements

 
New Mexico Driver's License is required this position and Defensive Driving is required in order for employee to use state vehicle for events such as trainings/workshops.

Working Conditions

 
Indoor office setting, 8 hour shifts, 40 hours a week with working lunch on-site. Minimal overtime, if any. Team effort to accomplish job assignments. This division is covered by 3 - 24 hour shifts per day: 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, 10p-6am
