DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Performs surveillance related to disease outbreak and/or bio-terrorism activities within the Bureau of Epidemiology. Provides reports to Epidemiologist Manager or Epidemiologist Supervisor regarding progress of activities.
  1. Manage and maintain effective relationships with assigned healthcare providers and facilities to enhance recruitment of health survey participants. 
  2. Recruit sampled individuals to participate in health surveys using multiple data sources, including search engines and public databases. 
  3. Conduct telephone and in-person interviews with assigned sampled individuals during each data collection cycle. 
  4. This role requires availability to work during evening hours and weekends to recruit survey participants and conduct interviews during the data collection phase of the project. 
  5. Perform medical record abstractions for interviewed participants during each data collection cycle and enter data into web-based medical record and data management systems. 
  6. Document and track all recruitment and linkage/re-engagement activities in an electronic tracking module or database. 
  7. Conduct advanced and comprehensive lead searches to locate sampled individuals, including those designated as out of care, using multiple search engines and databases. 
  8. Coordinate linkage to care and re-engagement services for participants who are out of HIV medical care or in need of support services, in collaboration with the Bureau of HIV/STD & Viral Hepatitis Prevention. 
  9. Coordinate recruitment of sampled individuals in institutional settings, including immigration facilities, jails, and prison systems. 
  10. Conduct field visits to sampled individuals recorded home addresses to verify residence status and confirm location validity. 
  11. Prepare and submit weekly reports summarizing project activities and progress toward funding agency benchmarks and performance goals. 
  12. Provide support for the development, review, and dissemination of local and national interview instruments and data products, including surveillance reports, technical briefs, factsheets, abstracts, presentations and manuscripts for publication. 
  13. Conduct outreach activities and participate in community health fairs and events to promote awareness and participation in health surveys and project initiatives.
  14. Facilitate and participate in community and provider advisory board meetings and workshops for behavioral and clinical surveillance projects.
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

Requirements

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences or a related field.
 
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year of professional experience in public health or health care is required. Internships, practicums, and similar programs may be evaluated and substituted for professional experience.
 
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

GRANT FUNDED POSITION
Grants & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred.
Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.

PAY GRADE: 17
