The Family Health Bureau works to improve the health of women, children and families in New Mexico through policy, surveillance, assurance, and direct services provided to reproductive age women, infants, children, adolescents and their families, including children and youth with special healthcare needs. The staff in the bureau work to bring federal funds to New Mexico and provide guidance and oversight of program services provided in the regional health offices.

Why does the job exist?

 
This position provides support to the Children's Medical Services (CMS) program by coordinating and organizing over 100 pediatric medial specialty clinics that occur annually in the local public health office to improve access to pediatric care. This includes handling all logistics for the providers and the public health staff. The position helps the program with fiscal solvency by managing the case management and clinic billing for all clients enrolled in the program. This includes auditing monthly billing sheets for services as provide by CMS staff and entering client claims into each insurance billing portal. It requires a high-level knowledge of medical terminology, billing codes, claims submission and denials and adjudication to address any claim denials.

How does it get done?

 
Oversight of the training activities for CMS users on the program's integrated database. 25%

Trouble shoot provider billing errors and assist CMS staff and medical providers in resolving issues related to patient care. 25%

Liaison between CMS, Medicaid, and database contractor. Manage reports that assist with patient care and delivery of services.25%

Manage the enrollment of eligible clients onto the high-risk medical pool. 25%

Who are the customers?

 
Clients of Children Medical Services, internal and external partners of Family Health Bureau and Department of Health. Customers also include internal and external customers, clinical field office staff, contractors, and state office staff.

Ideal Candidate

 
Must be a master¿s level social worker.  Must possess a current license in accordance with NMAC61-31-9 to practice as a LMSW or LCSW level. More than five years working as a licensed social worker in social work setting such as social service agencies, healthcare, medical, educational settings, mental health, home health, hospice, developmental disabilities, or other relevant settings.  Five years minimum of social work supervisory experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.    Considerable knowledge of social work principles and practices and experience working in partnership with multiple agencies; Familiarity or experience working in a medical environment. Experience working with children/ youth with special healthcare needs preferred; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; Ability to work with a diverse client population, e.g., age, sex, race, mental/physical capabilities, religion, ethnicity, and culture.  Bilingual English Spanish preferred.

Minimum Qualification

 
Bachelor's degree in Social Work (in accordance with NMAC 61-31-9) and three (3) years of experience in a social work setting such as social service agencies, healthcare, medical, educational settings, mental health, home health, hospice, developmental disabilities, and other relevant experience, working with patients, clients, providers, and families. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

 
Office setting, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and cellular telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Position might require infrequent travel.
