The New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute provides care to New Mexicans across six different divisions including hospital level inpatient psychiatric care for both civil and forensic commitments, residential treatment for adolescents, outpatient care for people with behavioral health disorders, detox and residential substance use treatment, and skilled/long-term care. As the largest behavioral health complex in the state, inpatient/residential care is provided to over 250 New Mexicans every day, along with 400 outpatient clients a month. There are over 600 employees across all the divisions of NMBHI to ensure high-quality treatment and care is delivered.

Why does the job exist?

 
Employees in this class perform professional pharmacy work in either a pharmacy, clinical, regulatory, or administrative setting. Employees may be responsible for screening and preparing physician's medication orders, recording data on patient/client profiles, dispensing drugs, chemicals, and other pharmaceutical products, and maintaining inventory. Work may include training, writing, interpreting, or implementing policies and procedures. Work may include providing consultation to clinicians, providing instruction to others, performing medication regimens, and chart reviews with written feedback and recommendations. Work may include developing and maintaining pharmacy formularies and participating in drug utilization reviews and pharmacy-related research. Positions may have regulatory responsibilities such as clinical reviews drug utilization reviews inspections.

How does it get done?

 
-Creates policies on medication management, assesses plans of care as part of a patient care team, and charts and documents medications.

-Approves budget plans, oversees procurement of supplies and equipment, and assists in appraising the effectiveness of the overall drug program.

-Supervises Pharmacy Technicians.

Who are the customers?

 
This position provides service to all patients who are admitted to the hospital division of NMBHI.

Ideal Candidate

 
Candidate would have:

-Experience being responsible for screening and preparing physician's medication orders, recording data on patient/client profiles, dispensing drugs, chemicals, and other pharmaceutical products, and maintaining inventory.

-Experience training, writing, interpreting, or implementing policies and procedures.

-Experience providing consultation to clinicians, providing instruction to others, performing medication regimens, and chart reviews with written feedback and recommendations.

-Experience developing and maintaining pharmacy formularies and participating in drug utilization reviews and pharmacy-related research.

Minimum Qualification

 
Licensure as a Pharmacist with NM Board of Pharmacy and two (2) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field above licensure requirements and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.

2.CRIMINAL RECORDS BACKGROUND CHECK-Must successfully complete post offer pre-employment criminal records background check. Employment is conditional pending the results of criminal records background checks. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Working Conditions

 
This position will work in an office setting with exposure to Visual Video Display Terminal, personal computer, and phone usage. The work is in a psychiatric hospital setting with patients who struggle with mental illness and could present with unpredictable behavior.
