Supervising Occupational/Physical Therapist
for the California Children's Services Program

Interviews will take place beginning the week of June 22, 2026.
Job offer for the selected individual will be no later than week of July 6, 2026.  

Future Salary Increases

** June 2026 – 5.13% increase to base pay (3.5% Across-the-Board + 1.63% Market Adjustment) 

** June 2027 – 4.63% increase to base pay (3% Across-the- Board + 1.63% Market Adjustment) 

 
Supervising Occupational/Physical Therapists are responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day operations of a medical therapy unit (MTU) and/or satellite site of the California Children's Services (CCS) Program; supervising physical and occupational therapists and support staff; administering/overseeing medically necessary occupational or physical therapy services to children with neuromuscular and/or musculoskeletal disorders; and providing comprehensive medical case management, including review of durable medical rehabilitation equipment.

Hiring Process and Timeline

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.
  • Job Offer and Background Process begins week of July 6, 2026.  Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening. 
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Education and Experience
  • Valid California license as an occupational or physical therapist or in the process of obtaining licensure; AND,
  • Three (3) years of clinical experience working with physically disabled children as a certified or licensed occupational or physical therapist; OR, three (3) years of progressively responsible post-graduate experience in administering occupational or physical therapy to psychiatrically disordered and physically impaired patients.
Note: Supervisory experience is highly desirable.

Occupational Therapy Option

Professional License: Incumbents must be licensed as occupational therapists by the California Board of Occupational Therapy or be in the process of obtaining licensure in California. See note below.

Note: Occupational therapy applicants, who are licensed occupational therapists in another state besides California, must show proof of application for licensure as an occupational therapist with the California Board of Occupational Therapy (BOT). They must have completed an accredited occupational therapy program, including the minimum hours of required fieldwork, and passed the national examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Applicants who have applied for and been found eligible to take the next scheduled examination and those awaiting test results can apply for a limited permit and practice as an occupational therapist under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist. Applicants must obtain their license per California BOT or they will be terminated from County service.

Effective January 1, 2004, per the Occupational Therapy Practice Act, section 2570.4(d), individuals licensed in another state are allowed to practice in California for up to 45 days provided they work in association with a person that is licensed in California as an occupational therapist.

Physical Therapy Option
Professional License: Incumbents must be licensed as physical therapists with the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, Physical Therapy Board of California or be in the process of obtaining licensure in California. See note below.

Note: Physical therapy applicants, who are licensed physical therapists in another state besides California, must show proof of application for licensure as a physical therapist with the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, Physical Therapy Board of California. Physical therapist license applicants must obtain their license as provided in the California Business and Professions Code; Division 2; Chapter 5.7; Section 2636.5 and Section 2639 or they will be terminated from County service.  
 
Certification/Registration 
A valid National Provider Identification Number (NPI) is required at the time of employment.

Ideal Candidate
An ideal Occupational or Physical Therapist possess the following experience and/or skill sets:
  • Performing evaluation and treatment of pediatric clients with physical disabilities
  • Demonstrated proven leadership skills and an ability to communicate effectively to a large and diverse population of therapy clients and medical professionals on program policies and decisions
  • Ability to anticipate program-wide needs and develop strategies to meet these needs

Condition of Employment
As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.


Evaluation Process
Qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in the supplemental questionnaire. Please ensure all information is complete and accurate as the responses you provide on the supplemental application form will be reviewed using an automated evaluation system. If you are successful in the initial screening process, your application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information you provided is accurate and qualifying.
