Requirements

Qualifications

Sufficient education, training, and experience to demonstrate the ability to perform the above tasks, plus the possession and direct application of the following knowledge and abilities:
 
Training and Experience Note: The required knowledge and abilities are attained through possession of the special requirements 

and

Two years of full-time experience in a medical imaging discipline, such as Radiology (including Computed Tomography (CT), Interventional Radiology, and/or Mammography), Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, or related field, plus one year of lead,  supervisory, managerial, or director experience in an imaging discipline.   

Special Requirements

• Possess and maintain, in good standing and without restrictions, throughout the duration of employment in this classification at least one of the following certifications relevant to the respective modality: 
  • Radiologic Technology: Licensure by the State of California to practice as a Radiologic Technologist and certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

• Sonography: Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in a minimum of two RDMS specialties used at SCVH.

• Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): Licensure by the State of California to practice as a Radiologic Technologist and certification by either the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).

• Nuclear Medicine: Licensure by the State of California to practice as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist and certification by either the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).

• Cardiac Sonography: Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or an Echocardiography Certification issued by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). 

• Ability to travel to alternate locations in the course of work. If driving, possession of a valid California driver’s license prior to appointment and the ability to qualify for and maintain a County driver authorization.

• *As a condition of employment, pursuant to California Government Code Sections 3100-3109 and Local Ordinance, all County of Santa Clara employees are designated Disaster Service Workers (DSWs), including extra help. A DSW is required to complete all assigned DSW-related training, and in the event of an emergency, return to work as ordered.

Knowledge of:

• Principles of supervision and training, and operations  
• Techniques of a medical imaging modality including one of the following specialties: Diagnostic Radiology, Computerized Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Nuclear Medicine Technology, or Ultrasound Technology;
   
• General medical imaging techniques, methods, and equipment;
   
• Specialized medical imaging principles, techniques, methods and equipment relative to one or more of the following areas: general radiography (including Computerized Tomography,  Interventional Radiology and/or Mammography), ultrasound, digital angiography, magnetic resonance technology or nuclear medicine
   
• Structural and organic anatomy;
   
• The methods of positioning patients for radiographic and specialized medical imaging procedures;
   
• Principles of image processing and development;
   
• Principles of radiation physics, ultrasound physics, or magnetic resonance physics;

• English usage, style, grammar, punctuation, and spelling;

• Common computer systems and applications.

Ability to:

• Perform complex radiographic and other medical imaging procedures;
   
• Analyze and resolve work-related problems and conflicts under the stress of time constraints in a hectic environment;
   
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures;
   
• Plan and organize the work of a moderately large staff;
   
• Teach, instruct and critique the work of medical imaging students  and technologists;

• Read and understand material safety data sheets and other safety communications;  

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, at all levels, including colleagues, the public, and representatives of other agencies.

• Use computer systems and applications.

Physical Requirements

• Lift, bend, push, and pull;

• Stand and sit for long periods of time and exercise a moderate amount of physical exertion, stamina, and manual dexterity in the handling of patients and equipment; 

• Assist, support, lift, and transfer patients in a safe manner.
