Join a mission-driven team in the Financial Management Division of the Minnesota Department of Health. This position will be in the accounts payable department and will be for filing of invoices, scanning invoices, data entry.  You will enter all payments with accuracy and timeliness.  Troubleshoot payment problems and follow up to correct discrepancies.  

This position is part-time and will work 20 hours per week.  The specific hours and days of work are flexible within 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday.  This position is anticipated to last until 08/31/2026 or until selected candidate completes their educational program, whichever occurs sooner.  

The telework policy exempts employees who live more than 50 miles from their primary work location from the 50% in-office requirement to help the State of Minnesota benefit from top talent in every corner of the state. 

The successful candidate, under U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations, must be able to accept work in the U.S. by the day employment begins.  The agency is unable to offer H-1B sponsorship.

Minimum Qualifications

The following minimum qualifications must be clearly demonstrated on the applicant's resume/application to be considered for this position.

Enrolled in either high school, a post-secondary, or graduate study program in or scheduled to enroll in (3) months.

  • Data entry skills sufficient to create database records and update entries in a timely manner.
  • Experience with computer software programs to create and/or modify information such as word processing, spreadsheets, or databases.
  • Skill in basic accounting sufficient to identify and resolve discrepancies in accounting records.    

Minimum qualifications that will be assessed during the interview process:  

  • Experience operating the following equipment:  photocopier, printer, scanner (multifunctional device) and computer. 
  • Communication skills sufficient to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to a variety of people over the phone, in person and via e-mail.
  • Ability to practice confidentiality when required or appropriate.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices sufficient to locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural and fiscal problems.  

Student Worker Eligibility:

To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing 10-key data entry and operating a Windows-based, computerized data entry program and equipment.   
  • Knowledge of numeric filing systems and the ability to use this knowledge to maintain a filing system. 
  • Clerical experience performing accounts payable in a business/finance/accounting setting. 
  • Interest or experience in Finance.
