This position is located in the Evaluation Section of the the Injury and Behavioral Epidemiology Bureau (IBEB) of the New Mexico Department of Health¿s Center for Health Protection (CHP). The Evaluation Section provides cross-cutting support to the Injury and Behavioral Epidemiology Bureau, including the Office of Alcohol Misuse Prevention, the Office of Injury and Violence Prevention, the Overdose Prevention Section, the Substance Use Epidemiology Section, and the Survey Section.

Why does the job exist?

 
The purpose of this position is to support existing and developing programs and policies which can be shown to be effective in reducing the incidence of sexual violence in New Mexico. The incumbent will use the principles of program evaluation, prevention practice, public health theory and quality improvement to achieve this goal. They will participate as an active member of the Evaluation Section and the Violence Prevention team, contributing to program planning, assisting in capacity building and participating in policy development efforts. This position plays a major role in the successful planning and completion of evaluations which are used to assess program progress and allocate resources. This position includes supporting the development and implementation of evaluation and performance management plans for federal grants, conducting program and policy evaluations involving collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data from multiple sources, and sharing evaluation findings and recommendations with internal and external audiences.

How does it get done?

 
This position designs, develops, and maintains all aspects of assigned evaluation projects including relationships with partners, data gathering tools, data systems, and evaluation reports and products. This position works closely with colleagues in the Evaluation Section and the Office of Injury and Violence Prevention as well as staff at partner organizations to collect, analyze, interpret and report qualitative and quantitative results related to violence prevention programming. To achieve this, they will establish relationships with community partner organizations that are engaged in sexual violence prevention and will support related prevention work (e.g. Alcohol Misuse Prevention, Suicide Prevention).

The people of New Mexico, including those partnering with and working at NMDOH to support interventions to prevent sexual violence and address violence-related harms.

Ideal Candidate

 
Master's Degree in Public Health, Psychology, Statistics, or related field with 2 years of experience working with diverse partners across state agencies, health systems, and in communities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, experienced in collecting and analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data and doing background research (e.g. literature reviews, environmental scans). High level of skill and experience with MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel), comfortable using other analytic software (such as R, SPSS, STATA, NVivo, etc.)  Flexible, able to respond to changes in policy and needs of a fast-paced team, with strong organizational skills, including meeting facilitation. Experience with federal grants and with sexual violence prevention work in New Mexico or elsewhere preferred.

Minimum Qualification

 
Master's Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Science, Social Sciences or Statistics. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

 
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching and lifting to twenty-five (25) pounds may be required. Some travel is required.
