Service Representative (General) (Bilingual)

This is skilled clerical work providing interpretive and advisory services to the public or employees. Work includes giving and eliciting information in situations that require the employees to explain pertinent city and state regulations, ordinances, laws, and procedures. Employees ascertain that received documents are properly and completely prepared, make calculations to compute fees and other charges, initiate the processing of documents received, contact various city agencies to resolve problems encountered. Employees in this class support their service delivery responsibility by performing data entry and retrieval and records maintenance through automated systems or through manual systems of records and files of customer and employee information. Full time contact with employees or the general public to provide and elicit information is especially significant. Work is performed under the supervision of an administrative or clerical supervisor.

This computer-based examination will be scheduled for the week of March 2, 2026.  Please note that this examination date is subject to change

Candidates will need access to a desktop computer or laptop with a webcam and internet access to take the examination. Candidates will need to be able to operate computerized software proficiently and independently.

An Eligible List will be established the week of March 23, 2026.  Please note that this date may change.


TEST REVIEW

In accordance with Civil Service Regulation 9.091B, candidates will have 30 days after the results have been mailed to review their test and to file appeals to the key answers. Call 215-686-0880 if you wish to schedule a Test Review


Level of Education Required

High School/GED 

Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience

The following statement represents the minimum training and experience requirements which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests.  


ANTICIPATED ELIGIBILITY
Candidates who meet all eligibility requirements within months of the application deadline will be admitted to this examination.  Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list but may not be hired or promoted until all requirements have been satisfied.

BOTH SPECIALTIES

1. EDUCATION:

Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.

AND

2. EXPERIENCE:

Two years of customer service experience.

OR 

Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Human Resources.  

3. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT FOR THE BILINGUAL SPECIALITY

Sufficient training and/or experience to converse effectively in the designated non-English language.

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATES

Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of employment as a Service Representative, if required by work assignment.
