The Occupational Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (OLPPP) is a part of the California Department of Public Health's Occupational Health Branch. OLPPP provide services statewide to prevent and reduce lead poisoning in California workplaces including tracking blood lead levels in adults, investigating work-related lead poisoning cases, and providing information and technical assistance to employers, workers, physicians, and others.

The Research Scientist Staff (RSS) provides epidemiologic expertise related to lead and other workplace hazards to which workers are exposed on their jobs. Prioritizes, plans, maintains, and acts as a lead in overseeing the Adult Blood Lead Registry. Designs and conducts research studies on human populations, public health investigations, and statistical evaluations of a highly developed scientific scope and complexity related to occupational lead poisoning and other recognized and emerging occupational health issues in California. The RSS acts as subject matter expert and technical consultant for the public. May require periodic overnight travel to scientific meetings or investigation sites within California, up to 5%.

  • Relevant education and experience in surveillance systems, research approaches, and occupational and environmental health. 
  • Outstanding management of times and priorities. 
  • Interest in being a leader within OLPPP. 
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse program stakeholders and a multidisciplinary staff. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written). 
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
