Why does the job exist?

 
This job exists to provide recreational therapeutic activities within an established recreational program at a residential treatment center as part of the resident's treatment plan.
Designs, implements, and facilitates activities and mentors work program participants, documenting progress for the varied skills and ability levels of residents.
Makes recommendations for changes to therapeutic programs and may develop and monitor the program budget, including the authorization of expenditures.
Ensures that all health code regulations are followed.
Attends and participates in treatment team meetings, interdisciplinary care plans, completes assessments and progress notes.

How does it get done?

 
Crisis Prevention Intervention and Trauma Informed Care are the cornerstone of treatment at Sequoyah Adolescent Treatment Center. De-escalatlon techniques and coping mechanism are offered to residents and life skills are taught to assist with success upon discharges.

Who are the customers?

 
Our facility is a secure facility which serves the needs of adolescent males age 13-17 with a history of violence and aggression.

Ideal Candidate

 
The ideal candidate will have experience:
Creating recreational activities and plans for adolescents between the ages of 13 to 17;.
Working in a residential treatment facility;
Working in a therapeutic MILIEU; and
Working recover-oriented and /or trauma-informed-care environments
Working as a Supervisor

Minimum Qualification

 
High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico; or must obtain Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of hire as a condition of continued employment. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

 
Work is performed in an adolescent treatment center, with exposure to mentally and/or behaviorally challenged residents, who may exhibit unpredictable behaviors. This position may work In an office setting using related office equipment, with exposure to Visual Video Display Terminal and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Pushing, pulling, lifting and/or carrying.
