This position is a full-time, in-office position.
The Sr. Public Health Nutritionist Supervisor functions as site supervisor of the Casselberry and Sanford locations. This highly responsible position reports directly to the Public Health Nutrition Program Manager and requires a high degree of independent judgment, exceptional customer service skills, trustworthiness and the ability to multitask and remain calm under stress. This position requires independent judgement based on information found in the DHM 150-24 Policy and Procedure Manual for Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children.
Supervises all Casselberry and Sanford nutrition staff. Plans and monitors employee workloads, motivates employees to attain maximum use of time and resources; conducts annual and mid-term performance evaluations. Writes and communicates performance standards, validates and approves direct reports’ time sheets and EARs; approves leave requests according to policy; maintains up to date Position Descriptions on all direct reports; participates in recruitment, selection, hiring and training of new employees; takes disciplinary action as appropriate. Reviews employee's work assignments to ensure the provision of timely and appropriate services to clients per WIC guidelines and ancillary duties are completed as required. Performs yearly VENA observations and monthly QA audits. Serves as the backup liaison for Casselberry and Sanford WIC sites. and coordinates training,
Maintains professional communication with DOH-Seminole Administrators, Managers, Supervisors and State Office WIC staff. Serves as consultant on nutrition and dietetics for Health Department staff and participates in inter-disciplinary committees to further the vision of the agency. Responsible for coordinating with the assigned person in WIC regarding building issues; ensures the building is opened and closed on time and that all facility issues are handled expeditiously. Handles customer service concerns for Casselberry and Sanford clients immediately upon learning of a situation.
Responsible for oversight of the Direct Distribution Formula process between nutritionist and providers. Ensures orders forms are accurate and emailed from nutrition staff to staff designated to order special formula. Completes Over Issuance Report daily and After-Hours Access Tracking Log monthly. Completes Single User Certification Report bi-weekly. Completes EBT, Productivity, Milk, Foster Reports monthly. Completes direct reports’ QA’s and ensures staff submits their monthly QA’s.
Certifies eligible clients into the WIC Program, provides nutrition counseling and community referrals to clients. Evaluates the clinical and anthropometric data and nutrition history of women, infants and children eligible for participation in the WIC Program. Responsible for accuracy of all WIC certifications and other nutrition contacts completed by self and direct reports. Leads group nutrition education classes. Documents counseling and writes nutrition notes and/or care plans for WIC participants based on established risk criteria. Issues EBT benefits to clients when appropriate. Promotes breastfeeding to WIC staff and clients and acts as a liaison between nutrition, clerical and breastfeeding staff to foster successful working relationships.
Coordinates and supervises the nutrition module training of new WIC staff. Assists in planning, implementing, reviewing and revising the WIC nutrition education plan and other documents as requested. Selects and evaluates audio-visuals and printed nutrition education materials. Selects and/or develops curricula to update group nutrition education classes and establish new classes as educational needs arise. Ensures adequate staff participation in outreach activities. May give presentations on nutrition topics from current science-based information at staff meetings and in the community. Updates assigned object actions plan located on the J-drive, Strategic Plan folder and notifies WIC Program Manager and Performance Improvement Coordinator by quarterly updates.
Accurately completes and submits the following: daily employee activity report (EAR), daily sign in/out sheets, leave requests, People First timesheets and travel logs by required deadlines. Attends / leads staff meetings, WIC conferences, special nutrition trainings, health department trainings and Town Hall meetings. Performs other duties as assigned to support the mission of DOH-Seminole.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the terminology, principles and practice of the science of nutrition, nutritional treatment techniques, chemistry, biochemistry, statistics, research methods, and other supporting nutrition sciences, the theories and concepts of preventative health care in a community or public setting. Knowledge in the management and supervisory practices thereof, the principles of interviewing and counseling clients, and the principles and techniques of effective communication. Knowledge in the Windows and Microsoft Office software. Skill in computers. Ability to coordinate and participate in nutrition care plans to perform nutritional assessments, to determine nutritional problems, and to monitor the quantity and quality of nutritional care. Ability to work independently and work with others. Ability to supervise people. Ability to determine work priorities and evaluate work outcomes, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to organize and direct program activities to resolve problems and make decisions. Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to analyze and communicate verbally, and in writing effectively. Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports. Ability to type proficiently.
Qualifications:
Must be licensed dietitian/nutritionist in the state of Florida.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in dietetics or food and nutrition related subject required.
Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
