Senior Mental Health Outreach Worker

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this part-time contractual position is to provide outreach services via home visits, visits in the community settings, and/or telephone contacts to older adults/adults with disabilities who reside in the community and are in need of behavioral health support and coordination of services, referral and collaboration with behavioral health providers, health care providers and other community resources/coordinated services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university including 15 credit hours in a human service program. The program must have included either a supervised practicum in providing counseling or other therapeutic services to the mentally ill or at least nine credit hours in psychology, including abnormal psychology. Experience: Two years of experience providing counseling or other therapeutic services to the mentally ill. For the III level, the experience must have included 100 hours of clinical supervision and 25 hours of in service training in mental health. Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute one year of experience providing counseling or other therapeutic services in a mental health setting under the supervision of a licensed professional staff member or a Master’s degree prepared mental health professional for the required practicum. 2. Candidates may substitute additional college education in a human service program for the required experience at the rate of 30 credits hours for one year for up to two years of the required experience. 3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Mental or Behavioral Health Counseling classifications or Mental or Behavioral Health Nursing and Specialist specialty codes in the Counseling field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

The desired candidate should possess the following: Experience working with older adults Knowledge of local agencies and resources Valid driver's license with reliable transportation Good Communication skills

SELECTION PROCESS

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits. Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
