Why does the job exist?

 
This position is responsible for the administering resources and operational activities to ensure the development of audit programs, execute internal and special audits that aid management in the assessments of programs and contract management.

How does it get done?

 
This position leads, plans and performs internal audits for the Department of Health. This position is responsible for oversight of financial audits, including financial year end audits, grant and budget audits, contract compliance audits and performance audits. This position is responsible for presenting the audit findings to upper managements with suggestions on ways to improve audit compliance within the NM Department of Health. This position will work closely with the Deputy Secretary on compliance  and make recommendations on proposed corrective action plans for audit findings. This position will also work with Division Directors on proposing internal control measures to ensure compliance with federal and state rules and regulations. This position will apply the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing promulgated by the institute of Internal Auditors.

The position works directly with upper management, Division Directors, financial staff and contractors.

Ideal Candidate

 
The Ideal candidate must have knowledge in auditing contracts and federal grants. This position must also have experience in financial management and auditing of financial statements.  The ideal candidate must have excellent writing skills and must have experience in excel, word and power point. This position must also have at least 2 years of supervisory experience. Certified Internal Auditor designation is preferred but not mandatory.

Minimum Qualification

 
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, or Business Administration and six (6) years of directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, finance, and/or budgeting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

 
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.  

Working Conditions

 
Office setting, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
