Join Louisiana’s Safe Drinking Water Program as a Sanitarian 5 and play a critical role in protecting public health! In this dynamic position, you’ll oversee a team of sanitarians, conduct field inspections and investigations, and ensure compliance with state and federal drinking water regulations. Using scientific principles and approved methods, you’ll monitor public water systems for contaminants, perform chemical analyses, and help implement programs that keep communities safe. This statewide role offers hands-on fieldwork, opportunities for professional growth, and the chance to make a real impact on the health of Louisiana residents.

Requirements

Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarian's license plus one of the following:

Four years of experience as a sanitarian; OR

A master's degree in public health, food science, dairy science, environmental or sanitary science, or one of the physical or biological sciences plus three years of experience as a sanitarian.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Job Duties:

·  Serves as Sanitarian 5 within Louisiana’s Safe Drinking Water Program, implementing state and federal regulations as delegated by the Environmental Protection Agency.

·  Performs work following scientific principles, concepts, techniques, and approved methods.

·  Manages compliance with the Total Coliform Rule (Revised) and Ground Water Rule within an assigned region of the district.

·  Conducts Class 1 Surveys to ensure adherence to the State Sanitary Code and Safe Drinking Water Program requirements.

·  Supervises and manages personnel, providing guidance, development, and training as needed.

·  Assists with the implementation of district-wide compliance activities and monitoring programs.

·  Participates in fieldwork, inspections, and investigations to support safe drinking water initiatives statewide.
